Studio diary - solo creative retreat

Read: 3 minutes. A mostly-visual diary of an artist escaping to the woods.

Location: Rural retreat on Coila Creek in far south coast, NSW.

I usually keep these moments of safety and creativity well-guarded, because this part of my process feels sacred and so so special.

It’s time to share the absolute beauty and range of this place. From vast views, to zoomed in textures an details, here are moments which I had to capture on this trip.

Some stunning things which caught my attention:

  • the smell of the rain, and standing on the deck painting in the sprinkling rain

  • the vintage pair of doors and lead windows, salvaged from a property on the next hill over

  • the neighbour’s dam, which has made it into a few of my paintings - see if you can spot it

  • the contrast of the stormy skies with bright setting sun

  • how content I am

  • crunchy frosty morning walks

  • picnics in the sun

Airbnb link, for those lucky enough to be within travelling distance. For reference, it’s about 4 hours south of Sydney.
